Foundations Events partnered with Shane Ramer, owner and producer of That Sober Guy Radio, for the Innovations in Behavioral Healthcare 2016 conference. The podcast discusses alcoholism and addiction recovery, providing a platform for guests to speak their minds and share their stories in an honest, intimate format.

In this podcast Shane Ramer of That Sober Guy Podcast talks with Johnny Patout from New Beginnings Adolescent Recovery Center. Patout has been working in the treatment industry for 32 years. He has held nearly every position in the field from intern to program director but has never had as much fun as he has now working with teens. Patout motivates teens to accept a healthy lifestyle and find the joys of recovery. He sees the loving, creative and interesting sides of struggling young adults. He encourages them to take advantage of the opportunity for self-exploration that treatment provides.
Johnny Patout and Shane Ramer discuss the evolving field of addiction treatment. Patout entered treatment in the early ’80s. At this time aversion therapy and confrontational, bootcamp-style treatment were standards. As stigma subsides, treatment becomes more effective and understanding. It focuses on exploring the reasons behind substance use and on helping patients discover who they truly are. Recovery involves building personal strength and confidence. Staying sober involves changing thoughts about self and life.
