Everyone has the ability to recover from addiction and mental health issues.
You may feel helpless. You may be completely heartbroken over what addiction has done to you and your family. But at Skywood Recovery, a residential treatment facility under the skies of Augusta, Michigan, we firmly believe that everyone has the ability to recover. We believe it because we’ve seen real healing revive the lives and hearts of so many who were once hopeless and heartbroken.
Not Just Another Addiction Treatment Center
Perhaps your or a loved one has seen the inside of a handful of treatment centers already. Phone call after phone call has left you convinced that shopping for treatment is a hassle, and no one can guarantee that they are any better than the rest.
What could possibly be different about Skywood Recovery? Many programs sound the same, hoping to inspire you with clinical terms like “dialectical behavior therapy,” “EMDR,” “medication-assisted treatment,” and more.
All those things are good enough, but how can you tell what kind of experience Skywood offers?

When many people think of treatment for addiction they think hospitals—they think of these very cold, sterile buildings. And Skywood is the opposite of that. It’s on 300 pristine acres in Michigan, and before it was a treatment center, it was a golf resort. We have five miles of cart paths where folks can ride bikes or go for a walk. There’s a lake—we do fishing groups at the lake, we’ll do bonfires… It really has a feel that is way different from many hospital-based detox or residential programs.
The make-up of the clinical team at Skywood reflects our underlying philosophy, which is integrated treatment. The patient collaborates with the team to look at the underlying issues and drivers of their addiction, and from this, we craft a treatment plan. We employ several clinical modalities, and these are all evidence-based practices. These are things like cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy… Some of the more popular groups are experiential groups; we have a high-ropes course and a low-ropes course. There’s equine-assisted therapy. A super popular group is Wellbriety, which is a Native-American take on 12-step recovery.
Being comfortable and being safe in treatment is paramount. We achieve that by having 24-hour medical staffing. We’re also very flexible: if someone’s having a rough day, I’ve seen the medical director or therapist walk on some of the cart paths with a patient who’s really struggling. I don’t care if you’re a housekeeper, if you’re a residential assistant, or if you’re the medical director—we keep the patient first.
When you come to Skywood, you can expect to receive world-class, integrated care where we treat the whole person, surrounded by folks who are really invested in your personal recovery in an environment that is peaceful, serene, and welcoming.

What we do at Skywood is different for several reasons.
First, we treat addiction and mental health at the same time in a highly integrated way, looking to restore a person’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being.
Second, we focus on resolving trauma, underlying issues and deep-rooted emotional pain that often causes substance abuse in the first place.
Lastly, we emphasize life skills that help each person build a foundation for sustainable, long-term recovery. After all, your recovery is yours, and we treat you as a partner—not merely a “patient”—in developing your own recovery lifestyle. We assist you in meeting your personal goals and give you the tools to succeed long-term.
As a TRICARE®-accepting facility, we understand the unique challenges faced by those who have served and their loved ones. Our highly trained and compassionate staff works closely with TRICARE® to ensure seamless access to treatment programs.
Objectives of Addiction Treatment
If you want to know what to expect during recovery, let us tell you what we’ve seen as a result of our programs:
Deep, Transformational Life Change
Your husband stops stealing money. He starts going to work every day and making new friends at his sober living house. He goes to 12-step meetings and begins wood-working as a new hobby.
Genuine Hope and Happiness
Your daughter laughs again. She jokes around like she used to and enjoys meals with the family, tea parties with her daughter and exercise with friends in her yoga class.
Rediscovery of One’s Authentic Self
Your brother sounds like himself again. He calls you up from time to time to tell you that he loves you. He makes time for his family and he’s regularly cooking healthy meals.
Healthier Relationships
Your nephew doesn’t spend all his time isolating himself anymore. He joins a soccer club and makes friends who don’t do drugs. He has made amends with his father, and now they have lunch every week.
Excitement and Fun Without Substances
Your sister is having the time of her life as a runner with friends in recovery. She goes on bike rides and has movie nights with her peers. She finds great restaurants to try out and new hiking trails to explore with you and your family.
Recovery Is Possible
None of this occurs overnight, and it takes time, effort and support to face the challenges that arise in recovery. The process is not linear, and it’s often messy, especially at first. We know the obstacles firsthand, and we’re prepared to help you and your loved ones overcome them.
Our treatment methods have a deep-seated history in research and quality assurance. All of our experience and expertise fosters real, dynamic healing and our approach to recovery is evidence-based.
What Really Matters
At Skywood Recovery, we have the therapeutic methods and the programs that have proven to work. But it isn’t about the programs. It’s about you and your family.
We have unique, comfortable accommodations and special features to our campus, but all of these are a side note compared to the experience you or your loved one can expect to have with us.
Remember that our compassionate staff are beside you each step of the way. They know how scary it can be to move forward into a new future, and they know how the magic of recovery happens. They are ready to show you the way.
