Adam Miller, MD joined Skywood Recovery as Medical Director in June 2017. Dr. Miller was born and raised in West Michigan. He received his undergraduate degrees at Hope College in Holland Michigan and went on to get his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He furthered his training by attending the University of Michigan for both his psychiatry residency and addiction fellowship.
After training, Dr. Miller started his career by maintaining a faculty position at the University of Michigan focusing on resident education and the treatment of individuals struggling with both addiction and mental health disorders. He also participated in the emerging integrative medicine movement which aims to provide improved behavioral health interventions within primary care clinics. He ultimately resigned from the university with a passion to bring his expertise and knowledge back to the West Michigan area, the place he feels most at home.
Dr. Miller pulls from a wide range of knowledge and experience to provide focused individualized treatment. He firmly believes that no two individuals are exactly the same and that the most effective treatment is tailored to an individual’s needs. In regard to what attracted him to the addiction field, he states, “I find satisfaction in assisting people to find their way from a place of immense difficulty and doubt to one of confidence and optimism; the transformation is truly something to behold.”
Dr. Miller currently resides in the greater Grand Rapids area with his wife and two rambunctious sons. He has a passion for learning in general, and when he does find free time, he enjoys reading, board games, all things athletic, and visiting with friends.
