Dr. Hegazy completed an addiction psychiatry fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed his psychiatry residency training, as well as a psychodynamic psychotherapy-training course at New York Medical College/Metropolitan Hospital. Dr. Hegazy also completed his master psychopharmacology program at the Neuroscience Education Institute. Dr. Hegazy graduated from Ain-Shams University School of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. He is an addiction psychiatrist treating patients with a co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.
He has a very strong background and clinical skills working in inpatient dual diagnosis psychiatric unit, and he served in outpatient addiction psychiatric care for about 5 years. He is board certified in Adult Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and in Addiction Medicine as well.
He is passionate about providing the comprehensive and integrated care for patients with dual diagnosis disorders including social, psychological, spiritual, psychiatric, and medical care. Because of the complexity of mental and addiction illnesses, he believes in team approach to achieve stability of illnesses. Also, because of the chronic nature of the disease, he believes in continuum of care by adjusting the level of service according to the severity of illness, and readiness of the patient. He is very enthusiastic about motivational enhancement to approach, engage and maintain patients in treatment.
Dr. Hegazy is very interested in teaching the neurobiological model of addictive disorder to understand the nature of the disease and to reestablish homeostasis during the process of the treatment. Also, he is engrossed in treating depression, anxiety and trauma related disorders.
